From Australia, Report from Momoyo K. at St Andrew’s Catholic College

Hello, everyone! I am Momoyo Kawano, an exchange student studying at St. Andrew’s Catholic College in Australia.  In this report, I will write about mass at College, weather in Cairns and coronavirus.

Last Wednesday, we had mass because we celebrated Easter, but Easter is not yet. Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday.  It took us about an hour to have the mass, but I felt the time for the mass passed quickly because during the mass we were busy listening to some speeches and singing songs.  I am not catholic, so I have never done like singing sacred song and praying like this. But I really enjoyed the time, because everything was first for me and thrilling.  At the end of the mass, we got black cross on the forehead.  We were not allowed to remove the cross by ourselves. So, everyone had the cross on the forehead even afternoon.

Recently, in Cairns there have been lots of storm and thunder. So, when we move to another class between each period, some students were wet from rain. But everyone doesn’t mind it and nobody use umbrella at the time. Also, the storm gave many thunders. A person was found dead by thunder in Queensland, Australia.

Now corona virus is a very big problem in the world.  Of course, my friends and host family have concerns about Japan and the other countries. I talked with my friends about the problem. My friends said “Australia is too far from other countries, so if it had been a long time ago, we would not have any coronavirus. But now we have planes or ships, unfortunately we get coronavirus very easily”.

In japan, I have heard that every school is closed due to stopping coronavirus spread from Monday.  We are very worried about Japan, and I hope you will be in good health.

みなさん、こんにちは！オーストラリアのセントアンドリュース・カトリック・カレッジに留学中の川野桃代です。このレポートでは、ミサとケアンズの天候、コロナウイルスについて書きたいと思います。

先週の水曜日、イースターを祝福したのでミサがありましたが、まだイースターではありません。先週の水曜日は灰の水曜日でした。ミサは約1時間ですが、私たちはお話しを聞いたり、歌を歌ったので、時間がはやいと感じました。私はカトリックではないので、聖歌を歌い、祈るようなことはしたことがありません。しかし、すべてが初めてだったので、私はその時間を楽しみました。ミサの終わりに、額に黒い十字をかいてもらいました。私たちは自分で消してはいけません。ですから、みんな午後でも額に十字架のマークがありました。

最近、ケアンズにはたくさんの嵐と雷が降ります。そのため、授業ごとにクラスを移動するので、一部の学生は雨で濡れていました。しかし、誰も気にせず、誰も傘を使用しません。また、嵐は多くの雷をもたらしました。オーストラリアのクイーンズランドで雷により亡くなった方もいました。

現在、コロナウイルスは世界で非常に大きな問題です。もちろん、私の友人やホストファミリーは日本や他の国を心配しています。私は友人と問題について話しました。私の友人は、「オーストラリアは他の国から遠いので、もし以前だったら、オーストラリア人はコロナウイルスには感染していませんでした。しかし、今では飛行機や船があるので、残念ながらコロナウイルスは非常に簡単に手に入ります。」

日本では、すべての学校がコロナウイルスのために月曜日から閉鎖されました。私たちは日本を心配しており、皆さまの健康を願っています。私の報告を楽しんでいただけたでしょうか。レポートの最後までお読みいただきありがとうございます。
