From Germany, Report from Sumire at F+U Academy, Heidelberg

From Germany, Heidelberg, Report from Sumire F. at F+U Academy 021520

Hi, I’m Sumire Furuta in Heidelberg, Germany.  Now I got used to this environment.  My body was adjusted to its coldness here in Heidelberg earlier than to jet lag because it’s been minus 3 degrees every morning.  In fact, it took me one week to get used to the time difference and three days to get used to the coldness. Today, I would like to describe my high school in Germany.

First of all, I would like to introduce my commuter transportation to school  It takes about 10 minutes by tram from my dormitory to school. Then, we go to classroom which is the 3rd floor. Secondly, regarding my school timetable, it is completely different from that of Japan. In Japan, the day is divided into 6 hours classes. In Germany, the day is divided into 11 hours classes. First class begins at 7:55 am and the final class finishes at 5:45 pm. And the starting time and ending time differ depending on the day of the week.

As for the classes not found in Japan, there are four classes that are not in Japan.  The first is German language class.  Some students are native speakers of German, so they are divided into two classes.  The second is GBL, which is a class to experience world events. But on days without events, we learn Germany at the time. The third is “Theory Of Knowledge(TOK)” where we can share our special skills with everyone using PowerPoint. Finally, we have “Personal Project”, where we are involved in a project for several weeks to think about how to use your special abilities for society and make presentation on it.  I have been enjoying this school.

Thank you for reading.
