カナダ・ヴィクトリアのStelly’s Secondary Schoolに1年留学している Riko さんからのupdated report です。

Hello, everyone.　I’m Riko Saito and I’m an international student at Stelly’s Secondary School in Canada. Three months have passed since I came here, and now I’m used to living in Canada. In this updated report, I’m sharing a story about my school life here.

My host family runs a farm. So, I can see alpacas, emus and sheep every day.  Also, I have a roommate from Italy.  We always go to school together, and I often do my homework with her. I’m really happy because I can get a taste of life with a sister.

I’m taking 4 blocks study at my school, and we repeat the same classes every day. My classes are English, Mathematics, Dance, Musical, and Orchestra, so, I would like to write about why I was moved by my Musical and Orchestra classes. We’re practicing for “Shrek”, which is a musical, and I’m playing the keyboard for this show. I have never played the keyboard in an orchestra, so it was tough to follow the classes in the beginning. In particular, it was really hard to complete 10 more pages of the music book for every music class. I was fretting that I couldn’t keeping up, so I told my friends about my concern and trouble in this classes. Then everyone consoled me and advised me how to do that. Their words calmed me down and I realized it’s important to ask for the help of my friends.

Anyhow, I was able to see an audition for the musical. I had thought it would have been serious tense atmosphere, but everyone was enjoying it and they looked fully confident of their performance. I was surprised at their confidence and they looked like shining stars to me. I naturally teared up and realized that I could be sure of myself.

I had some tough times in those three months, but every experience was treasure for me.

こんにちは、カナダのStelly’s Secondary Schoolに一年留学している齊藤莉子です。カナダに来て三カ月がたち、こちらでの生活も慣れました。今回は私の学校生活を書こうと思います。

まず、私のホストファミリーは農場を経営しているため毎日アルパカやエミュー、羊を見ることが出来ます。また、イタリア人のルーメイトがいるため毎朝彼女と登校したり、宿題を終わらせたりしています。私は姉妹がいないため、お姉ちゃんの様な存在が出来てとても嬉しいです。

私の学校は一週間同じ4科目を繰り返し受けます。私は英語、数学、ダンス、ミュージカル＆オーケストラのクラスを取っており、ミュージカル＆オーケストラのクラスで感動したことを書こうと思います。このクラスではShrekのミュージカルに向けて練習をしており、私はキーボードを担当しています。今までオーケストラでキーボードを弾いたことがなかったため、最初は大変でした。特に、次の授業までに楽譜を10ページ以上終わらせることは本当に大変でした。私はこのクラスについていけないことを悩んでいたので友達に相談したところ、アドバイスや優しい言葉をかけてもらい、お陰で落ち着くことが出来ました。そして、友達に助けを求めることも大切だと気がつきました。

また、私はミュージカルのオーデションを見ることが出来ました。始まる前は緊張した雰囲気に包まれると思っていましたが、皆がその場を楽しんでおり、皆自信に溢れていました。私はその姿を見て自然と涙が溢れ、自分もこんなに自信を持て良いのだと実感しました。

この三カ月、大変なこともありましたが、どの経験も貴重なものとなりました。私の経験をシェアしてくださってありがとうございます。
