アメリカ・サンディエゴのハイスクールで留学生活を送っている未香さんからのレポートです。

Hello, I’m Mica Tahara. I have been staying at a local high school in San Diego, California for 1 year .  I’m American, so I’m not an exchange student.  But I’m attending this study abroad program.

A month has passed since my school here started, and I got used to all of my classes. Classes start from 8:15 in the morning and ends at 2:40 in the afternoon.  These are my classes:

My favorite class is computer animation, because my friend and I have a fun time working on projects of the class.

All of my classes are way easier than in Japan.  I was surprised that a lot of the tests are open notes, meaning that you can look at your textbook and handouts during testing. You can even ask the teacher for help on some tests too.

Yesterday, I went to a homecoming pep assembly and a football game at my school. Everyone has a lot of school spirit at my school. The school’s colors are blue and gold, so everyone wore those colors yesterday.

I’m going to join a volunteer and work experience program. When I finish, I’ll be getting a recommendation letter to certify its completion.

At home, I take care of my host family’s grandchildren and teach them their homework. I also walk the dog every day. I wanted to join a sport, but the tryouts ended for this season, so I will probably tryout in winter.

皆さん、こんにちは！　田原未香です。アメリカ、カルフォルニア州のサンディエゴに一年間留学しています。私は、アメリカ国籍なので、こちらでは留学生という立場ではないのですが、1年間、アメリカの高校で学ぶプログラムにいます。私の学校は一ヶ月前に始まり、今は、授業に慣れました。授業が8:15に始まって、2:40に終わります。 これが私の取っている授業です

私の一番好きな授業はcomputer animationです。友達とプロジェクトをやるのが楽しいです。全ての授業が日本より全然、簡単です。ほとんどのテストで、教科書やノートを見ていいことになっていて、びっくりしました。さらに、数学ではテスト中、先生に質問ができます。

先日は学校のホームカミングのpep assemblyとフットボールの試合に行きました。みんなschool spiritが強いので、そこでは学校のカラーの青と黄色の服を着ていました。

また、私は、ボランティアと仕事体験のプログラムにも参加しています。修了したら、修了書がもらえます。家では、ホストファミリーの孫のお世話や宿題でわからないところを教えたりしています。犬の散歩も毎日します。スポーツ(部活)に入りたかったのですが、今のシーズン(秋)のトライアウトが夏休みに終わってしまったので、冬のシーズンになったらトライアウトするかもしれません。

アメリカでの学校生活のレポートを皆さんとシェアできて、うれしく思っています。
