From Canada – New Exchange Program at Strathmore Secondary in Alberta

本校では、今年からカナダの1年留学プログラムに新しい学校がいくつか加わりました。これまでのブリティッシュ・コロンビア州のバーナビィ学区の学校に加え、アルバータ州のカルガリー近郊の学校でも1年留学を開始しました。その新しい留学先の学校の一つ、ストラスモア高校（Strathmore Secondary School）で1年留学を開始した Mamiko Abe さんと　Honami Sato さんからの最初の留学レポートが届きました。留学に勇気をもってチャレンジした2人、これから多くのことを学んでくれると思います。

Hello there!  It is great to give my first greeting from Alberta, Canada. This is Mamiko Abe‼︎ I have been studying abroad at Strathmore Secondary School in Calgary, Canada.  I am now enjoying staying at a school dormitory.  As you know, Canada is full of beautiful nature.  The air is so clear and comfortable, too.

At first, I was anxious about my staying overseas, but I am getting used to it gradually. In Canada, of course, I have to do everything in English. What’s more I must do everything by myself. For example, I have to ask for water or medicine and shopping in English all by myself.  So, I always have to think of it one by one with my head. I am much struggling to getting used to doing everything.  However, many Canadians are always very friendly and sometimes help me with everything.  Canadian people always greet each other as they walk along the street, and the dormitory people are friendly and lively, too. The people in the dormitory are better at English than I am, so sometimes I have difficulty exchanging words.  Also, being different from Japanese school, you can choose your favorite subjects at school.

As I mentioned, there are many things I am concerned about, but I will try to do my best here in Canada.  Thanks for reading my report!

初めまして、私の名前は阿部眞美子です!!私はカナダのカルガリーに留学しています。そして、私は学校の寮に住んでいます。カナダは自然がいっぱいで、空気も澄んでいます。最初は不安でしたが、今ではだんだん慣れてきました。海外は何をするにも英語です。そして全て自分自身でやります。例えば、水を貰う･薬を貰う･買い物をする。一つ一つに頭を使います。私はそれを慣れるのに苦労しています。でも、カナダの人はフレンドリーな人が多く、助けられることもありました。道を歩いてても挨拶し合うし、寮の人達もとても活発です。寮の人達は私より英語が上手で、言葉を交わすのに苦労がいります。また、日本の学校とは異なり、好きな科目を選択できます。

このようにいろんなことで、日本とは違い、まだまだ不安ですが、頑張ります!!

Hello, everyone.  I am Honami Sato, an exchange student who is studying abroad at Strathmore High School in Canada.   This is my very first report from Canada, where I will quickly introduce my daily life in Canada.   I live in a school dorm with another room mate student, who is a Taiwanese girl.  At first, I was very nervous and couldn’t speak anything to her, but now we are very close to each other.

Canadian meals didn’t fit my mouth at first, so I could hardly eat it.  Although there is still some food that I can’t eat, but I always give it a try to get used to it.  I was surprised that the school I go to here in Canada is completely different from my school in Japan.  When classes are over, it is difficult for everyone in school to move to the next class.

There are many things I have to get used to now, but I am enjoying my school life here.  Thanks for reading my report! See you at my next report.

初めまして。こんにちは。ストラスモア高校に留学している佐藤穂波です。今回は、私がカナダに来て一週間の日常を紹介しようと思います。私は、２人部屋の寮に住んでいます。同室の子は台湾の子です。最初は緊張して何も話せなかったけど、今はとても仲がいいです。

カナダのご飯は、最初は口に合わなくてほとんど食べられませんでした。今は、カナダのご飯で食べれないものもあるけど段々慣れていけば良いなと思いました。学校が始まって、日本とは全然違うのがびっくりしました。授業が終わると学校にいる全員が次の授業に移動するのが大変です。まだまだ、慣れませんが、まずは、私のレポートを読んでくださって、ありがとうございます。次のレポートでは、学校の授業について紹介したいと思います。ぜひ、また読んでくださいね。頑張ります！
