通常授業の再開から1週間。　少しずつ本校の大きな特徴である大学と連携したアカデミックな学びが帰ってきました。本校は、SGH(スーパー・グローバル・ハイスクール)アソシエイト校として、平成27年度からさまざまなグローバル教育の取り組みを行ってきました。そのメイン・プログラムの一つが、大学との連携による特別授業です。

9月3日に今年度の高大連携アカデミック授業の第1回目として、大妻女子大学・大学院教授、文部科学省SGH/WWL企画評価委員でもある服部孝彦教授による授業が本校で行われました。　服部先生は、本校がSGHとしての取り組みを開始した時から、継続的に本校を指導いただいている本校のSGH・グローバル教育、帰国生教育のスーパーバイザーでもあります。

今回の高大連携特別授業は、高校3年生の選択クラスの生徒を対象に、“Developing Academic Writing Skill” 「アカデミックな英文を書く力の育成」というテーマで、特別講義と演習を行いました。

授業はすべて英語で行われ、論理的でアカデミックな英語の文章を書くためのポイントを多くの実例とともに丁寧に解説をしました。まず、アカデミック英語の基礎となるワンパラグラフ・エッセーにおける構成と展開を学びます。その上で、全体のまとまりがあり、話の流れと一貫性がある論理的な英文を書くことができるようになる練習を行い、また、自由英作文の採点基準についても解説がされました。

受講している本校の高校生は、帰国生、海外留学経験生、そして海外経験はないが本校で英語力を磨いている高校3年生たちです。全員が、TEAP,　IELTS, TOEFL iBTの受験経験者で、こうしたアカデミックな英語4技能検定試験のスコアを伸ばす難しさと楽しさを知っている生徒ばかりです。

服部先生との英語でのやり取り、生徒同士で、論理的な英語でのやり取りも活発に行われ、十分なブレーンストーミングを行ったのちに、アカデミックなエッセイライティングに取り組みました。

「アカデミック・イングリッシュ」の大妻中野を代表する高校3年生たちのエッセイに、服部先生から「大学入試にも期待が膨らみますね」との言葉を頂き、生徒たちは自信を深めた様子でした。

A special English class for English for academic purposes was held on 9/3 at Otsuma Nakano in face-to-face lesson style.  Dr. Takahiko Hattori, Professor of Linguistics and Language Research at Otsuma Women’s University and its Graduate School gave this special class to senior students of Otsuma Nakano.

In this lesson, Developing Academic English Writing Skill, Dr. Hattori made an informative lecture on several important points about “academic” English essay writing to the students, and also he gave many specific examples about writing logical essays which convey your message clearly. For the first thing in this class, the participant students learned logical development and organization of a paragraph, which is essential to understand English for academic purpose.  Secondly, they made some practice of  pair academic English speaking.  Finally, they concentrated on writing a good English essay, which is well organized and logically coherent.  What’s more, Dr. Hattori made clear explanation about how your essay is evaluated when you take a writing test.

This special lesson will surely be beneficial to these senior students when they take university entrance exams, IELTS, TOEFL, 1st grade of Eiken and United Nations Associations Test of English.

Otsuma Nakano continues these academic special classes conducted by university faculty from now on.

Dr Hattori’s Biography

Takahiko Hattori, Ph.D., is Professor of Linguistics and Language Research at Otsuma Women’s University, Japan. In addition, he works for Otsuma Nakano Junior and Senior High School as a supervisor of English and global education.  He has published extensively, and made presentations both in Japan and North America. His research interests include second language attrition and English language instruction in the Japanese High school context.
