法政大学グローバル教養学部GIS 連携 – 世界を舞台に、自分らしいリーダーシップを育む 「法政大学GIS × 大妻中野の挑戦」

大妻中野は、文部科学省から、WWL（ワールド・ワイド・ラーニング）拠点校として採択されている学校です。　WWL校は、文部科学大臣の指定を受け、国内外の大学や企業、国際機関等と協働し、グローバルな社会課題の解決に向けた探究的な学びを実現する学校です。そのWWLの重要な協働大学、法政大学GIS（グローバル教養学部）と大妻中野が連携協定を結び、協働して、英語で異文化理解力・課題解決力・発信力を磨く特別な学びの場が始動しています。

法政大学グローバル教養学部（GIS）学部長の福岡先生の特別授業に続き、GISのDr. John Melvin 先生を本校の特色ある英語授業 English for Academic Purpose I（高2選択クラス）で行いました。

今回の授業は、ツーリズムがテーマ。　“Introduction to Tourism & Tourism Impacts” というトピックで、法政GISと同じスタイルでの授業。　生徒たちも積極的に英語で答える白熱した取り組みとなりました。Leadership、Tourismなど実践的な授業を通じて、「なぜ英語で学ぶのか」「その学びをどう社会に生かすのか」を深く考える機会となったこの協働プログラム。世界に通じる力を育むカリキュラムは、他にはないGISの真骨頂。未来の進路を描くきっかけとなる、ここでしか得られない体験が待っています。

Otsuma Nakano has been selected by the Ministry of Education (MEXT) as a hub school for the WWL (World Wide Learning) project organized by MEXT.  As part of this program,  we are working in collaboration with universities, international organizations, and companies both in Japan and overseas to develop various curricula.

As part of this effort, we held a special lecture by Dr. John Melvin from the Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies (GIS) at Hosei University — one of our WWL partner institutions with which we have a high school-university collaboration agreement.  The lecture was conducted in English and feature interactive, in-depth dialogue, offering participants a direct experience of the kind of learning that takes place at Hosei University’s GIS.

受講した高校2年生の生徒の振り返りを紹介します。　Here are the students’ reflections.

Through this class, I gained a much deeper understanding of the term “overtourism.” Until now, I had assumed that tourism was always beneficial to local areas, so I was surprised to learn how it can actually place a heavy burden on both the daily lives of residents and the natural environment.

What left the strongest impression on me were the examples of globally popular destinations like Kyoto and Barcelona. In these cities, the surge in tourism has made it increasingly difficult for local people to maintain their everyday lives. I came to realize that when a tourist destination shifts from being “a place where people live” to “a place made for tourists,” there is a genuine risk of losing its original culture and traditions.

I also found it very meaningful to learn about the concept of sustainable tourism. Rather than rejecting tourism altogether, it is essential to find a balance that respects the needs of the local community and supports more thoughtful, responsible travel.

This class made me reflect on the importance of being a responsible tourist. From now on, I want to travel with greater awareness, acting in ways that show respect for local people, cultures, and the environments I visit.

Studying in English is really difficult in Japan. We don’t have many opportunities, and I feel that our English skills are often limited.

When I was in elementary school, I lived in a foreign country for a few years. At that time, I had many chances to study in English—even at a Japanese school there. But after I returned to Japan, my English skills gradually declined. That’s why I’m so happy I could take this EAP class. It helped me reconnect with learning in English, which I’ve become very interested in again.

To be honest, I didn’t have much confidence in my English, so I was really nervous about speaking in class. But Dr. Melvin was very kind and told us that making mistakes is an important part of learning. That really encouraged me.

Since then, I’ve been trying to use English more often. Sometimes, I use a translation app for a few words, but I’m also trying to explain things without translating. I know I don’t always use the correct words in my reflections, but I believe this is really good training for me. I want to keep improving my English and hope to study in English at university.

I’m so glad I took this class. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

最後に、本校卒業生でグローバルチューターでもある法政大学GIS4年生の竹村優花さんからの大妻中野とGISの連携・協働についてのメッセージを紹介します。

今年度から、妻中と法政大学GIS（グローバル教養学部）の協働・連携が本格的に始まりました。生徒の皆さんが、GISという学部の特色や他大学・他学部との違いを肌で感じ、将来の進路を考える上で貴重な機会となっています。第一回の協働授業では、福岡教授（GIS学部長）によるLeadershipの講義を受講。GISの必修科目「Leadership and Career Development」では、異なる市場でのビジネスモデルの適応、異文化間コミュニケーションの重要性、多様なビジネス環境でのリーダーシップ発揮法などを全て英語で学びます。私自身、高校時代は「リーダーシップ」を単に目立つ人や責任を背負う人と捉えていましたが、GISでの学びを通して、それぞれの個性や強みに基づいた多様な形があることを理解しました。この講義が、生徒の皆さんに「自分らしいリーダー像」を考えるきっかけになればと願っています。

第二回では、Dr. John MelvinによるTourismの授業を体験。観光とビジネスを通じて地域・グローバル課題をどのように解決していくのかを学び、英語で学ぶ意義や必要性を実感できたのではないでしょうか。GISの最大の魅力は、単にAll Englishで学ぶ環境だけではなく、「なぜ英語を使って学ぶのか」「その学びをどのように社会に還元するのか」まで深く考えるカリキュラムにあります。グローバル社会で必要とされる課題解決力、異文化理解力、実践的な発信力を、言語の枠を超えて身につけられる環境は、他にはないGISならではの強みです。

こうした協働授業は、生徒にとってGISの価値を知るだけでなく、自らの将来像や進路選択を具体化する契機になったと感じます。私自身も改めてGISの魅力を再認識しました。今後もGISと妻中のつながりをさらに深め、生徒と大学生が直接交流し学び合う機会を増やしていきたいと思います。
