From Canada – Exchange Reports on Schools at Burnaby & Ottawa

From Canada, the following two updated report on exchange students’ lives there in Canada reached us. The first is from Y. U. in Ottawa, Canada.  Here we go!

Hello!  I’m Y.U, and I’m an international exchange student studying at Glebe Collegiate Institution in  Ottawa, Canada since February of this year.  There were many very warm days this month. So, I went to neighborhood and forests by bicycle with my host family several times. It was a good exercise!

First, I would like to write about my school.  All classes this month were going online until 1:20. So I had a lot of time to do my homework and had free time to spend being with my host family. This month I drew a picture of basil in an outdoor class with the theme of “spring art”.  My classmates used to put plants on the ground to make works and pile up stones to make works!  Actually, this tool was lent by my host mother.  She is exceptionally good at painting.

The next topic is about going out with my host family.  A tulip festival is held in Ottawa.  We also went to a park near downtown.  You can see many kinds of tulips there.  It was beautiful, so I took a lot of pictures! Also, I took a pedal boat with an Italian exchange student on a river nearby.  I was tired from using it for an hour, but it was fun to take pictures of her and I talk to her!

In school this month, I made a presentation about Mr. Harry, who learned in the history class that appeared in the newspaper article the other day! Harry’s descendant and a black hockey player participated in the event. It was an unbelievably valuable experience. I will keep myself participating in such opportunities!

I would like to continue learning a lot in Canada.  Thank you for reading until the end!

The next report is from Burnaby, BC in Canada, which is the final one for her because she will be completing her exchange student’s life at Burnaby South Secondary School.   Here you are!

Hello, everyone. I’m M.H, an exchange student studying at Burnaby South secondary school in Canada. This month, most high school students got vaccinated and the Covid-19 is getting better. Also, the temperature rises and over 30 degrees almost every day.

In this month, I finished my school. Last day of school, I watched the movie and played some board game with my classmates and our teachers. I also got some gifts with the school logo from the teacher who helps international students. Those are great gifts for my memories, and that teachers gave a cake to international students.  I am impressed that this school is incredibly so good for international students.

I bought the yearbook, then I asked my friends and teachers to sign on it. And they did it. At that time, I was so sad because I have to go back to Japan. However, I made many great friends and memories even with Covid-19.  Also, the rules about Covid-19 are getting better, so I can go to some place for tourists and restaurant now, so I went to the some great places with my friends then I took a lot of pictures.

What’s more, I love Starbucks, so I went to the Starbucks near the school almost every day with my friend. Therefore, some baristas remember us, and sometimes, they drew the emoji on the drink cups. Last day of school, we went to that Starbucks same usual, then we told them that we are going back to Japan. They said they are going to miss us. We were so glad to hear that. We didn’t expect us to be such good friends with them.

I’m writing this report before I go back to Japan. I have to get the COVID test. I’m so nervous about that, but its requirement when I go back to Japan.

Thank you for reading my report!!  It’s about 10 months since I came to Canada to study abroad. Now, I got many friends and I learned so many things in the school, and also I have wonderful memories with my host family, my friends, and my teachers. I couldn’t join some event because of Covid-19, but I could spend great time in Canada even during Covid-19. If you curious about study abroad, you should do it!!! I can recommend it with confidence.   Also, I’m grateful to my family for giving me a valuable experience.

Thank you so much. I will never forget about all experiences!!
