From New Zealand, Report from Hikaru Kito at New Plymouth Girls High School 0209.20

Hello, I am Hikaru Kito. I’m studying in New Plymouth, New Zealand for one year.  I’d like to talk about my holiday and school.  In January, I went to Wellington to see my friends. They are my friends I met with on South Island tour I joined.  I missed them after South Island tour, and I have really wanted to meet them again. So I was happy to be with them again.  I went to beach, botanic garden, and down town.  New Plymouth is countryside, so I haven’t seen high buildings, but Wellington is the capital city in New Zealand, so I saw many high buildings and there were so many people in the town. I think Wellington is smaller than Tokyo, but I was still surprised.  I made new friends there in Wellington.  I had so amazing time with them. This summer holiday became the best holiday for me ever before!

Finally, the long long holiday finished last week, and then, term 1 started.  I’m year 11 this year.  I’m taking different subjects this year from the ones I took last year. I chose Design Visual Communication and Accounting for options. I learn about designer, and we actually design building or interior at Design Visual Communication.  I’m learning about famous designers now.  I really enjoyed this subject, because I can’t learn this subject in Japan, and also, I’m interested in design.

At Accounting class, I am learning how to read receipt and data, calculate. It is sometime hard for me, because I don’t have knowledge about accounting. There are a lot of professional words just for accounting, but I think accounting is good and helpful skill for me, so I want to learn it enthusiastically.  We have classes called modules. It is time for learning what you want to learn without exam or assessment.  For example, I got driver license class. In New Zealand, we can get driver license from 16 years old. This class is about how to get driver license and traffic rules. It’s quite interesting because I can compare the rules in Japan and the ones in New Zealand.  There are other classes about board game, fun science, yoga, massage and so on. I want to fully enjoy these things that we don’t have in Japan. The pictures are botanic garden and wellington.

こんにちはニュージーランドのニュープリマスに留学している鬼頭光です。今日は夏休みと学校について話したいと思います。

私は1月に、ウェリントンにサウスアイランドツアーで知り合った友達に会いに行きました。サウスアイランドツアーが終わってから、私は彼らに会いたいとずっと思っていました。ウェリントンではビーチやボタニックガーデン、町を歩き回ったりしました。ニュープリマスは田舎なので大きなビルを見ることはありませんが、ウェリントンはニュージーランドの首都なのでとても人が多くて高いビルがありました。ウェリントンは東京よりも小さい街ですが、それでも驚いてしまいました。ウェリントンでは新しい友達もできました。素敵な友達と過ごした夏休みは、今までで一番楽しい夏休みになりました。

ついに長い休みが終わり、学校が始まりました。今年、私はイヤー１１になりました。今年は前回のタームまでとは違う選択科目を選び、デザイン・ビジュアル・コミュニケーションとアカウンティングを選択しました。デザイン・ビジュアル・コミュニケーションのクラスでは有名なデザイナーについて学んだり、実際に家具や建物の設計をしたりします。この教科には日本ではうけられないし、私はデザインなどに興味があるのでとても楽しめている教科の一つです。

アカウンティングでは領収書や資料の読み方について学びます。この教科は専門用語があったり、私自身にアカウンティングに関する知識がほぼないので難しく感じる時がありますが、このスキルは持っていたら糧になりそうなのでやりたいと思いました。

この学校にはモジュールという時間があります。この授業は、テストはなく自分が学びたいことを学ぶ授業です。例えば私は運転免許証についてのクラスを受けています。ニュージーランドでは16歳から運転免許証を取得することができます。このクラスでは、どのように運転免許を取ることができるや、道路標識について学べます。日本とニュージーランドの違いを比べられるので、とても興味があります。ほかにも、ボードゲーム、楽しい理科、ヨガ、マッサージなどがあります。日本では学べないことが学べるニュージーランドの学校を満喫したいと思います。写真はウェリントンとボタニックガーデンです。
