Hello, everyone!  I’m Aoi Gomihara, an exchange student studying at Sacred Heart Girl’s College, in New Plymouth, New Zealand.  In this report, I will talk about my summer vacation in Auckland, how to spend my  Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New year.

My grandparents have a friend in Auckland who had studied Japanese in Japan when she was a student. So, I visited her and stayed with her family about 2 weeks.  The family has a holiday house in Pauanui.  I stayed there for about 10 days. Pauanui is a very beautiful town and area for holiday houses. The town is located along the beach, so I can go to beach within about 5 minutes by bicycle from the home. Also, their relatives also have homes in the town.  We got together every day int the town

I got my best friend who is a 15 years old girl and one of the relatives. We went to beach every day.  We did many many things, surfing, jump from the high bridge and fishing. Also, we did some games and baking. I made a Pavlova first time. My most favorite memory is fishing. They have their own boat, and we went out to the sea. I caught about 8 fishes. The biggest one was about 50cm. We had sashimi for dinner!

The next topic I will write is about Christmas.  In New Zealand, Christmas is bigger event than Japan. When I woke up, there were a lot of presents under the Christmas tree. I got many presents. I surprised because we had gorgeous meal even though it was breakfast. I went to one of the relative’s house. They have a pool. The pool was big!

Then, let’s move on to the topic of New Year’s Eve and New Year.  I went to beach in the middle of night and enjoyed seeing fireworks. It was amazing!! Also, we did countdown for New Year.  On New Year’s Day, we went out sea by boat and had a picnic at small island!! Also, I had swim and watched fishes.  I enjoyed New Zealand summer holiday, Christmas and New Year. It was an amazing experience for me.

I have few more weeks for holiday .So I would like to fully enjoy the holiday!

皆さん、こんにちは。セイクレッド・ハート･ガールズ・カレッジに留学中の五味原葵です。最近は、とても暑く、夏らしい気候です。今回のレポートでは私のオークランドでのクリスマスツリーの、年末年始の約2週間のホリデーについて紹介しようと思います。

まず、なぜ私がオークランドへ行ったかというと、私の祖父母がオークランドに友達を持っているからです。その方は、学生の頃に日本に留学に来て、私の祖父母の家に滞していました。私が滞在させて頂いたその家族はPauanuiというところにホリデーハウスを持っていたため、私は約10日間をその家で過ごしました。Pauanuiはとてもきれいな街で、別荘地のような場所であるため、とても賑わっていました。また海沿いの街で、自転車で5分走れば海というような立地でした。また、親戚家族も近くにホリデーハウスを持っていたため、毎日みんなで集まっていて賑やかでした。その親戚の中に15歳の女の子がいて、私はその子ととても気が合いニュージーランドでの親友になりました。私達は、毎日海に行きました。とても綺麗なビーチがあり、サーフィンや波乗り、高い橋から飛び込みをしたりしてとても楽しかったです。また、たくさんのゲームをしたり、クッキングをしたりもしました。私のお気に入りの思い出は、船に乗って釣りに行ったことです。私のオークランドの家族は自分たちの船を持っていました。その船で海に出て、釣りをしたのですが、私は8匹ほどの魚を捕まえることが出来ました。私が捕まえた中で1番大きかった魚は50センチメートルほどでした。その魚を夜ご飯に刺身で食べることが出来ました。

次にクリスマスについてです。クリスマスは、日本よりも大きな行事で、朝起きるとクリスマスツリーの下に山のようにプレゼントが置いてありました。私にもたくさんのプレゼントがありとても嬉しかったです。また、朝から豪華な食事で驚きました。私達は朝から親戚の家に行き、親戚みんなで集まって一日を過ごしました。その親戚の家にはプールがあり私はとても驚きました。

次に年末年始についてです。大晦日の日、私は夜中にビーチへ行き花火を見ました。みんなでカウントダウンをして新年を迎え、とても賑やかでした。また、元旦の日は朝から船に乗って近くの島まで行きピクニックをしたり泳いだりしました。

このように私はニュージーランドの夏休み、クリスマス、年末年始を満喫することが出来ました。日本とは違ったお祝いの仕方に文化の違いや意識を感じることができ良い経験となりました。
