From America – Study at the University of Saint Joseph #12

Monday, August 7th,

Here comes another Monday with cloudy sky and chilly in the morning.  In the afternoon, it started raining. It was a drizzling day afternoon.  Rainy Monday always gets me down… No, we are all fine!!

Today, we had a very special class of nursing instructed by Prof. Megan Mooney. This is the first opportunity for all of the Otsuma Nakano students to join a real university class of nursing. First thing we did in this Nursing Lab was we washed our hands very carefully with hand sanitizers like real nurses. And then, we all put on some kinds of medical wears, gloves, hair-caps, and special glasses.  These are for the special medical treatment.  Following the advice from Professor Mooney, the students gave it a try to act as a real nurse and do some medical treatments to their mannequin -patients.  The room is just like an authentic medical operation room with full equipment.

Second, students examined the mannequin -patients heartbeat sound, breath and blood pressure using a real stethoscope.  This was the first experience for all of the Otsuma Nakano students to do some kinds of merical treatments.  So, they looked so overwhelmed to the atmosphere about this class and the power of Professor Mooney.  But also this is sure to be a wonderful experience for them to have a chance to study about nursing with such a great professor at a university in America. Pretending to be a nurse even for a very short time will benefit them in the future of them.

In the afternoon, we had a special class to visit the Museum of the University of Saint Joseph.  This Museum keeps lots of prestigeous art works by American artists.  But the highlight of this Museum is to archive lots of Japanese Ukiyoe and Nishikie art works by Hiroshige, Utamaro, and Hokusai.  The curator of this Museum showed us bunch of traditional Japanese art works and explained what's there in these pictures.  Also she made a specific explanation about the process of Hanga-ukiyoe finalized into their completion.   Every picture tells a story. One of the Otsuma Nakano students explained what's going on in this picture of an ukiyoe.  She did a great job. The curator was impressed with her explanation.
Rain and drizzle dayです。
