From St. Andrew’s_

What difference can I make?

Hello! The time passed so quickly!! I can't believe that one month has passed since we came here. Little by little I got used to speaking English, so I've been living a full life.

The students of St. Andrew’s are busy doing their assignments, so their typing sounds echo all around the classroom.  I can’t type as fast as they can.  They’ve been using laptops since they were in Year 9.  They use laptops when they attend their classes, so a laptop is a “must” item for them.  It’s very useful because they can search for anything, send and receive mails, do assignments and take notes.

I've been learning yoga Wednesday afternoon. This is my first time learning yoga, so I'm happy. It is very interesting and a nice time to make myself relaxed.

I went to a restaurant, called 'Grilled.' At this restaurant when you order your food, they give you bottle tops. These bottle tops have a certain value and you can choose one of three local charities to donate the bottle tops to. At the end of the month, they add up the bottle tops and give however much money to the charities. I chose to donate to the 'Ellis Beach Surf Lifesaving Club' which is a beach near Cairns.

I had a friend's birthday party on Saturday.  She turned 16.  In Australia, The year 16 is considered to be a special age and the 16th birthday party is known as a 'sweet 16. In Australia, 16 and 18 are very special ages because at 16, you can learn to drive and at 18, you are an adult. This means you can drink alcohol and live on your own.

What's more I've been leaning slangs which are used when chatting. For example, they make OK short into K, and shorten “ See you “ into “ Bye to Cya”.  They are similar to Japanese slangs, so I think it is very interesting!

Hello, mates!  Now four weeks have already passed!  How quick time passes!  I have found myself speaking tons more English and even if the grammar is incorrect in your languages, your feelings still get across. That is what I have learned here.

This is my second time to stay in St. Andrews, but I still get surprised about lots of things.  I am really amazed by the amount of the assignments they have to do.  I am now working on my food technology and textiles assignment. I cook food with my friends every week such as scones, noodles, muffins and so on.  I am also making a shirt in Textiles. But it is not just making stuff.  We have to also write a report about it.  It is very difficult, but my teacher helps me all the time.

I can’t wait for the Japanese class. Everyone just loves Japanese language, and it makes me feel like a Japanese language teacher.  So I always think that “I have to teach them even more!”  The Japanese teacher wasn't here for the last class.  So, I helped all of the students in her place and I was extremely happy when my friend told me, “You should be our real teacher!”

私はfood technology(クッキング)とtextiles(裁縫)のアサイメントに取り掛かっています。
