It is great for us to share another updated report from New Zealand.  Saho Kurita, one of the new exchange students at New Plymouth Girls’ High School is going to report her hostel life there:

Hello! I’m Saho Kurita and I’m studying at New Plymouth Girls High School in New Zealand as an exchange student. In this report, I’ll talk to you about my life in New Zealand.

I’m staying in the hostel in the school.　My room is a quadruple room for 4 students and all of my roommates are kiwi.  In this hostel, students are required to wake up and go to bed regularly, and there is a time for study hall.  So, it is so good for me to be able to live a regular life. Also, I can go playing badminton every Morning, and also, I can go inline skating every Friday. I can make many friends there.

On the weekend, I can go shopping with my friends and go to my friend’s house. Usually, I’m getting along with my Korean friends and German friend. They are the same international students as me.  So, we can discuss each other’s country, teaching about each other’s language.  I’m spending a good time with them.

On the other day at school, there was a day called Pink Day last week. This is the day for the project to eliminate bullying, and it is also a day when everyone, including teachers, wear one pink thing. I had not pink clothes. So, I putted on a pink band.  It was fresh and exciting because there was no such a day like it in Japan.

At school, I am now taking Food & Nutrition, Health and Dance in addition to the compulsory subjects. In the Food & Nutrition class, we are cooking class every week. I can cook many kind of meals such as Pasta and Pizza in the cooking class. In the Dance class, two people make a pair and present the dance made by themselves front of everyone. English and Science are difficult and challenging to me, but all subjects are fun because I can communicate with my friends!

As always, my kiwi friends speak English very fast.  So, it is difficult for me to catch up with their communication.  But I would give it my best try to make communication with people from foreign countries , which will be surely make me progress.

私は！私はニュージーランドにあるNew Plymouth Girls High School に留学中の栗田紗歩です。これから皆さんに私のニュージーランドでの生活についてお話しします。私は学校内にある寮に滞在しています。私の部屋は4人部屋で他のルームメイトはみんなkiwiの子です。寮は起きる時間や寝る時間が決まっており、勉強タイムも設けられているので規則正しい生活を送ることができるのがとても良いです。また、毎週月曜日にはバトミントン、毎週金曜日にはインラインスケートに行くことができそこで沢山の友達を作ることができます。週末は友達とショッピングしに行ったり友達の家に遊びに行くことができたりできます。

私は普段、韓国の子とドイツの子と仲良くしているのですが、同じインターナショナル生だからこそお互いの国について話したり言語を教えあったりできて楽しい時間を過ごしています。

学校では先週Pink Dayという日がありました。これはいじめをなくすプロジェクトで、先生を含めた全員が１つでもピンクのものを身につける日です。私はピンクの服を持っていなかったのでピンクの髪ゴムをつけて行きました。

日本ではこのような日がないのでとても新鮮でした。私は必修科目以外に家庭科と保健、ダンスをとっています。家庭科は毎週調理実習がありパスタやピザなどいろいろな食事を作ることができます。ダンスの授業では2人でペアをつくり自分たちで作ったダンスをみんなの前で発表したりしています。英語や理科は難しいですがどの科目もコミュニケーションをとることができる科目でとても楽しいです！

kiwiの友達は話すのがとても速くてコミュニケーションをとることが難しいですが、積極的にコミュニケーションを取れるように残りの1ヶ月頑張りたいです！
