Now Hinako updates her exchange report on the fantastic life and experience at St. Andrew’s Catholic College in Australia as follows.  Here we go!

Hello! Everyone! I’m Hinako Murata. I am an exchange student studying abroad at St. Andrew’s Catholic College in Australia. Now it’s been 5 weeks since I came here, and it is surprising that there are only half left for my stay here!!Times flies very fast!!  I would like to write about my school life and what I did last weekend.

Firstly, I want to write about my school life at St. Andrew’s.  We have to move to another classroom every time. But we don’t have any break time between classes. So, I am very busy at school.  Also, I can choose the classes that I want to take from term2 of this year. So, it is difficult for me to remember the place of the classrooms which I should go to.  It would be good if you would take a look at my timetable as follows. I am studying every day on this timetable.

There is one more thing about classes of St. Andrew’s that surprised me.  Aboriginal people came to the religious class I take and made a lecture about aboriginal history for one hour. After the lecture, we had question and answer time for about two hours. I was very surprised that the question and answers time lasted 2 hours and someone was always asking questions to the Aboriginal people. As for classes in Japan, time for question and answers time is generally about 15 to 20 minutes. Also, I was surprised that there were only 20 students in one class.  I think it is better to have fewer people in one class because the distance between teachers and students is so close that they can interact with each other by questions and answers to exchange their ideas for long time.

Secondly, I want to tell you about what I did last weekend. I went to the Sunday Market at Port Douglas. The market sells cute accessories, souvenirs and something like that. My host mother bought a  pair of bracelets for both my host sister and me, and, she bought me some ice cream. The weather was very good, so it was very good memory for me.

I am always excited with great surprise one after another every day and it makes me feel happy! Thank you for reading my report! Have nice day?

皆さんこんにちは!オーストラリアのセントアンドリュース・カトリック・カレッジに留学中の村田日向子です。こちらに来てから時間が過ぎるのが早く、もう留学期間の半分くらいが過ぎようとしています。今回は、最近の出来事と学校で驚いたことを紹介します。

まずは、セント・アンドリュースに通っていて驚いたことから紹介します。一つ目に紹介することは、授業と授業の間に休み時間がないことです。ほとんどすべての時間が移動教室授業なのにもかかわらず、休み時間がないので授業が終わったら急いで次の教室に行かなくてはいけないのでとても忙しいです。しかも、今年度のターム２から自分で授業を選択することができるようになり、バディと時間割が別々なため広い敷地で休み時間がない中、教室を探すことはすごく大変です（笑）私の時間割表の写真を載せたのでぜひ見てみてください！

二つ目は授業についてです。セント・アンドリュースの先生1人が受け持つ生徒は多くても20人程度です。教員1人が受け持つ生徒は少ないほうが良いと一概には言えませんが、先生と生徒との距離が近く意見を交換し合ったり質問を受けたりするという点からは教員が持つ生徒数は少ないほうがいいのではないかと思いました。また、先日宗教の授業中にアボリジニの方がいらっしゃって、１時間貴重なお話を聞かせていただきました。私は、その後に2時間も質疑応答の時間が設けられていてその間質問が絶えることがなかったということに衝撃を覚えました。日本で質疑応答の時間というと15分から20分程度が一般的だったので人の前で自分の思ったことを発言することに対する考え方の違いを実感することができました。

最後に5月5日にポートダグラスで行われているサンデーマーケットに連れていってもらったのでその時の様子をお伝えします。ここにはかわいいアクセサリーや特産品、お土産などのたくさんのテントが出ていてとても楽しかったです。ホストシスターとおそろいのブレスレットとアイスクリームを買っていただきました。天気も良くとても楽しい思い出になりました。
