A new report reached us from another partner school of Otsuma Nakano in New Zealand, Sacred Heart Girls College.  A new exchange student, Mei Hagiwara, shares her experiences she had there with you all.

Hello, everyone. I’m Mei Hagiwara, a one-year exchange student at Sacred Heart Girls College in New Zealand. I have spent about three weeks here and recently I got used to the life in New Zealand. I already have many memories during these three weeks. I will introduce some of them to you all.

First, I’m writing about things with my host family.  My host family has my host father, host mother, host brother and two host sisters.  All of them are very kind to me, so I’m living a full life!  In fact, the children are younger than me, but I can’t think so because they help most of the housework chores.  I haven’t helped my mother in Japan, but I’m helping the housework in here.  I make lunch by myself every day! I thought that it is a big difference between Japan and New Zealand. Also, there are two dogs and six chickens there. We walk the dogs at the beach in weekends. At that time, we can see very  beautiful sunset.  I attach the photo of the sunset in this report, which you can also see.

One day, they celebrated my birthday. They took me to bowling and bought a pizza and a chocolate cake, which are my favorite foods. At that day, I had spent only three day since I met them, but they celebrated my birthday, so I realized that I’m being a member of my host family from now on at that time. I had a great time on my birthday!

On Mother’s Day, I gave a letter and a mug to my host mom. She was glad, which also made me happy. At lunch I taught my host family how to make sushi and we made sushi together. I shared one part of Japanese culture.  From now on, I want to tell a lot of Japanese culture to share them with everyone.

Next, I’m telling you about my school life.  My classmates are very kind to me. I want to talk to my classmates and make more friends. We did cross-country, one of the big school events. I ran about one kilometer around school. Cross-country is one of the international sports. Also, there are four house teams and we wear clothes or stuff of my team color if possible. Somebody wore showy skirts and headbands, so I was interested in this event and it was fun!

Time passes fast. So, I do not want to waste my time day by day and enjoy New Zealand life!

皆さんこんにちは。ニュージーランドのセイクレッド・ガールズ・カレッジに1年留学中の萩原萌衣です。ここにきて3週間が経ちました。ようやくニュージーランドの生活に慣れて来たところです。この3週間ですでに、たくさんの思い出ができました。そのうちのいくつかを紹介します。

まずは私のホストファミリーとの出来事を書きます。私のホストファミリーは、ホストファザー、ホストマザー、ホストブラザー、２人のホストシスターがいます。みんなとても優しくて、充実した生活を送っています。子供達はみんな私よりも年下だけど、そうとは思えません。なぜなら、彼らは家事のほとんどを手伝っているからです。私は日本にいた時、家事を手伝ったことはほとんどありませんでした。しかしここでは家事を手伝っていて、毎日のお弁当は自分で作っています。これは日本とニュージーランドの大きな違いだと思いました。また、2匹の犬と6羽の鶏がいます。私たちは、週末に犬を連れてビーチを散歩しました。その時、とても美しい夕日を見たので写真を載せておきます。そして、ホストファミリーは私の誕生日を祝ってくれました。私の大好物なケーキとピザを買ってくれて、ボーリングにも連れて行ってもらいました。初めて会った日からたったの3日間しか経ってないのに祝ってくれたので、私はこれからこの家族の一員なのだと実感できました。誕生日はとても素晴らしい時間を過ごせました。

母の日には、ホストマザーに手紙とマグカップをあげました。彼女はとても喜んでくれたのでとても嬉しかったです。お昼には、お寿司の作り方を教えてみんなで一緒にお寿司を作りました。日本の文化の1つを教えたので、これからもっとたくさんの日本の文化を教えたいです。

次に、学校生活について書きます。私のクラスメイトはとても優しいです。もっと自分から話しかけてたくさん友達を作りたいです。学校の大きなイベントの１つであるクロスカントリーというイベントがありました。インターナショナルスポーツの１つだそうです。４つのチームに分かれて競いました。またそれぞれの各チームは色が決まっていて、なるべくその色のものを身につける必要があります。中には、派手なスカートやヘアバンドを身につけていてとても興味深いイベントでしたし、楽しかったです!

時間が経つのがとても早いです。1日1日を無駄にしないでニュージーランドの生活を楽しみたいです。
