From Canada Year Exchange Report on Burnaby South Secondary School

One more exchange kick-off report reached us from Burnaby South Secondary School.  Uruha Matsui, a 10^th grader of Otsuma Nakano who is studying in the secondary school in Burnaby, Canada, reported about her first impression of Canadian school life there.

Hello, everyone!   I am Uruha Matsui.  Almost 30days have passed since I came here in Canada.  In this report, I will write to you about Canada and what my school is like.

I have much fun in my life in Canada.  All places in Canada are so beautiful, such as the Down Town, English Bay and Stanly Park.  I went to Down Town and English Bay for hanging around.  There are a lot of people there to enjoy dining and shopping at many clothes’ shops.  And also, English Bay is very beautiful beach.

One of the famous shopping malls in Canada is Metro Town.  Metro Town is so very big.  In the mall, there are many big super stores and shops.  It is a fun place to visit, so I love it.  I bought many things in Metro Town.

Let me move the topic to my school, Burnaby South Secondary School.  My school is so big.  You can find there are some differences from Japanese schools.  First, while generally there are 6 classes in one day at Japanese school, schools in Canada have only 4 classes a day.  One period for a class takes 1 hour and 30 minutes, which makes me feel so long.  Second, there is no home room at schools in Canada.  Third, there are a lot of events at schools, such as Terry Fox Run, BBQ only for international students and orange t-shirt day.  Terry Fox Run day is the day when all student run around the school for 1 hour.  It’s very interesting.

I’m very shy, but I made friends at my school.  Canadian people are so kind that they always help me if they don’t know me.  Thanks to their support, I have been doing well.  Of course, there will be many difficulties in my life here in Canada, I will give it my best try.
