Special Remarks from the University of Saint Joseph for Graduating Students

3月15日、平成28年度の高校卒業生たちが本校を飛び立っていきました。大妻中野高等学校の卒業式に合わせて、世界各地からお祝いのメッセージが寄せられています。素晴らしい名誉と勇気と湧き上がる力を、本校の卒業生に与えてくれるメッセージを、皆さんと共有できるのは、私たちの最上の喜びです。本校のアメリカでの教育提携大学、セント・ジョセフ大学人文学部長、ウェイン・スティーリー博士からです。

The graduation ceremnoy for the Grade 12th students took place on March 15th, 2017.  We have a great honor to share with us and you all the outstanding and encouraing remarks from Dr. Wayne Steely, Dean of Humanity and Social Sciense Department, the  Univerisyt of Saint Joseoh. 

Dear Graduating Students of Otsuma Nakano High School,

I send warm greetings and congratulations to you, your families and friends, and to the faculty and administration of Otsuma Nakano High School and Otsuma University.  Graduation from high school is an event that rightfully brings great joy and feelings of accomplishment to all of those involved in the educational process, and your friends at the University of Saint Joseph share in your happiness.

I have personally met some of today’s graduates as they participated in a study abroad experience at our university in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA.  These students are wonderful examples for all of us; they traveled to witness and live a different culture.   To travel such distances at a relatively young age takes courage and vision, and a deep desire to expand their world view, and they are to be especially congratulated.  These students were excellent cultural ambassadors, and they have forged long-lasting bonds of friendship with our students.  As always when good things happen, this experience was made possible by the support and wisdom of others.  Otsuma University and Otsuma Nakano High School, and individuals such as Mr. Hanamura, Dr. Hattori, Ms. Miyazawa, Mr. Mizusawa and Mr. Morohashi, have provided these students with a wonderful opportunity for intellectual and personal growth, and we at the University of Saint Joseph are grateful for their collaboration and their friendship.

To all of the graduates of Otsuma Nakano High School, I would urge you to make great efforts to keep growing intellectually, to always do your best and to make your family and loved ones as proud as they are at this moment of your graduation.  As you take the next steps in your education and in your lives, remember to thank all of those who have made your academic success possible, and continue to honor those people by continuing to work and study hard, by living lives marked by moral goodness and concern for humanity, and by keeping yourselves open to new experiences.  You have accomplished much, but your life is still an open path for even greater things.  I wish you much happiness and success.

大妻中野を卒業する皆さんへ、

この度、大妻中野を卒業する皆さん、ご家族の方、そして、大妻中野、そして大妻女子大学の教職員の皆さんに心よりのお祝いを送りたいと思います。この卒業式は、この６年間の皆さんの教育に携わった全ての人、そして、University of Saint Josephにも大きな喜びと達成感を与えてくれるまさに素晴らしい機会です。

私は、アメリカ、コネチカット州のウェスト・ハートフォードにあるセントジョセフ大学の留学プログラムに参加した大妻中野の皆さんに会う機会を得ました。今日卒業する方もおります。新しい環境と文化にチャレンジする彼女たちの姿は、私たちにとって素晴らしいお手本です。それは、若くして遠い異国の地に飛び込む勇気、将来を見通す力、そして世界観を広げたいという強い気持ちを皆さんが持っているということです。彼女たちは文化交流を促す素晴らしい大使であり、私たちの大学の学生と終わることのない友情を築いてくれました。

この卒業式のような喜ばしい経験は、皆さんの周りの様々な方のサポートと知恵によって達成されたのです。大妻女子大学、大妻中野高等学校、そして花村理事長、服部教授、宮沢校長をはじめ、皆さん・大妻中野高等学校の生徒の知的な自己成長に繋がる素晴らしい機会を設けて下さった皆様の協力と親交に、私たちは深く感謝いたします。

大妻中野高等学校を卒業する皆さん、知的に成長することに弛まぬ努力を続けてください。そして、常に全力を尽くしてください。さらに、家族そして大切な人々にとって誇りになるような人になってください。新たな人生と学問の一歩を進みながら、今日という日を迎えるために支えて下さった人々に感謝の気持ちを伝えることを忘れずに。あなたを支えてくれる方へために、全力で学び、思いやりを忘れることなく正しい生活を送り、新しい経験を積んでいってください。あなた方は、これまでもすでに素晴らしい多くのことを達成しました。しかし、あなた方の人生はさらにより素晴らしい偉大もののために開かれているのです。皆様のこれからのご多幸とご成功を祈ります。

国際協調の精神のもと、あなた方すべてに心よりのお祝いを送ります。輝かしい未来が皆さまにありますように。
