From New Zealand_New Term Start_Report on New Plymouth GH_170129

A new term of the academic year of 2017 at New Plymouth Girls’ High School has now started.  From Otsuma Nakano, two new exchange students from Otsuma Nakano to New Plymouth GHS, are ready to join the school for term 1.   One of them, Shoka Yamahsita, who is a current Year 10th student, gives you her kick off report on the wonderful life in New Zealand.  Here we go!

Hello! My name is Shoka Yamashita.  I'm an exchange student from Otsuma Nakano to New Plymouth Girls High School in New Zealand.  We arrived at New Plymouth late afternoon yesterday.   Now I will talk about my New Zealand life and my host family.  l hope you will enjoy reading my report.

During our flight, I felt so excited and nervous about my life in there.   Because of such my feeling, I couldn't sleep a lot.  Also, since we had to go to New Plymouth by way of Auckland, which means we had to transit at Auckland airport, I felt so worried about whether we would reach New Plymouth.   However, fortunately we could arrive at our final destination there!

At New Plymouth airport, we found there were Ms. Teffrey, our host families and Naoka, who has been here as an exchange student since April in 2016. They were so kind to me, so I felt relaxed.

New Plymouth has a lot of nature, and it is a beautiful town.  Also, I think the time passing here seems to be slower than that of Japan.  I want to get used to this new environment.

My host family is very kind to me, so I can speak to them casually and comfortably.  Also, I ate ice cream for my dessert Saturday evening.  That tasted much more sweet than Japan, but that was so yummy.

On Sunday, my host family and I went to the church.  I thought it was just a place to pray. But it was like a music hall and people there started to sing for God or something like that.  I thought what it was like.  So, my host mother taught me this would be different from churches in Japan. While I was in the church, I met Girls High students. They were so nice. I am looking forward to meeting them in the school.

After that, we went the beach.  Something like a sports meeting was going on at the beach. We went there because my host sister's friend was there.   I also met another Girls High student.  She is good at music, so I'm going to learn about music from her because I also register to take music classes at New Plymouth GHS.  In the evening, I made quiche with my host mother for dinner. It was fun.

Tomorrow, the school will begin. I feel so excited!  I will do my best.  Everyone, thank you for reading my report!

Regards,

Shoka Yamashita
